Season 5 Draft Grades

#1           Diory Mercado                   Drafted by Syracuse                           Draft Grade: A+
Best player from this draft class picked 1st
ROY, 2 time All Star, 2 time Silver Slugger
Probably a future HOF player

#2           Willard Green                    Drafted by Tampa Bay                       Draft Grade: C+
Decent player but probably more of a pick 10-15 type.

#3           Miller Broxton                   Drafted by Atlanta                               Draft Grade: N/A
Didn’t sign.. Questionable move taking this player as there were a few quality players worthy of the #2 pick that would’ve signed.

#4           J.T. Kelly                               Drafted by New Orleans                    Draft Grade: A-
Stud DH/1B. Journeyman with only 2 ML seasons..
ROY, 1 MVP, 1 Silver Slugger, 1 All Star
Could be future HOF player

#5           Matt Kirwan                       Drafted by Salem                                Draft Grade: B
Good back end rotation pitcher.. Weak splits with solid control. Having just one good pitch might make for some rough seasons.

#6           Troy Blair                            Drafted by New Orleans                    Draft Grade: B
Decent #3 starting pitcher.. Above average  to good control and splits. Having just one good pitch might be a problem.
Could be a Season 10 Rookie of the Year candidate.

#7           Esmailyn Cruz                   Drafted by Florida                              Draft Grade: B+
Solid Centerfielder with good defense, speed and OBP ability.  Poor baserunning ability negates some of his speed ability.

#8           Patrick Webster               Drafted by Los Angeles                      Draft Grade: C-
Decent Centerfielder.. Average Range and Glove.. Average bat..

#9           Leo Conway                         Drafted by New York                          Draft Grade: A
Great LF/1B who can hit.. He probably should’ve been a Top 5 pick in this draft.

#10         Ben Fielder                         Drafted by Oakland                            Draft Grade: A
Best Starting pitcher in this draft class. Probably should’ve been drafted as early as # 2
Probably the favorite to win Rookie of the year in Season 10.

#11         Haywood Gaston               Drafted by Philadelphia                     Draft Grade: B-
Decent pitcher probably a career #4/5 starting pitcher. Average Control, mediocre splits..

#12         Pablo Gomez                      Drafted by Nashville                          Draft Grade: B-
Decent pitcher. Like Gaston probably not good enough to be a team ace. Good Control, mediocre vsR, Solid Velocity and 3 good pitches should be enough for him to probably have a 4 ish ERA  throughout his career.

#13         Freddy Cooper                   Drafted by Salt Lake City                   Draft Grade: C+
Decent Relief Pitcher.. Would be a lot better if his splits were flipped.  Probably good enough to be in the ML’s, stuck in AAA for a 5th season.

#14         Matthew Vernon               Drafted by Las Vegas                          Draft Grade: A
He is a solid Relief Pitcher and couldve very easily been selected in the top 10. Great control, Great vsR with one excellent 1st pitch and a solid 2nd pitch.

#15         Benny Terrero                 Drafted by Louisville                         Draft Grade: C+
Average  starting pitcher. Probably a career # 5 guy. Probably best utilized as a LongA. Would be a stud if he had better splits.

#16         GeraldoMarquez              Drafted by Texas                                Draft Grade: A
Didn’t sign..  Gave this selection an A grade due to the team getting a Type D pick in this weak draft class.

#17         RonKirk                              Drafted by Chicago                             Draft Grade: D
Mediocre relief pitcher doesn’t excel at anything

#18         SantoCarrasco                  Drafted by St. Louis                            Draft Grade: B
Decent left fielder. Good splits with a pretty good eye. Good speed with low BR ability. Quality starter.

#19         HarveyHamilton              Drafted by Pittsburgh                         Draft Grade: C+
Decent LF/2B good power average on all other ratings. Decent starter.

#20         KevinAllen                         Drafted by Cincinnati                         Draft Grade: D-
Mediocre starting pitcher. Not skilled enough to be a successful major league player.

#21         DennyBrush      Drafted by Norfolk                                             Draft Grade: D+
Mediocre to average relief pitcher not convinced that his high velocity, groundball and two good pitches will be enough to offset his below average control and splits.
#22         HarryCallaspo   Drafted by Cheyenne                                          Draft Grade: A
Didn’t sign..  Gave this selection an A grade due to the team getting a Type D pick in this weak draft class.

#23         JimSwisher        Drafted by Detroit                                               Draft Grade: D+
Border line major league talent.

#24         RossHissey         Drafted by Boston                                               Draft Grade: D+
Border line major league talent.

#25         Hong-ChihSuh   Drafted by Helena                                               Draft Grade: C+
Solid defensive player. Could win GG’s in CF or 2B.

#26         CozyBoyer          Drafted by Columbus                                         Draft Grade: C+
Average ML player due to his bat not being strong enough for 1B, LF or RF. He doesn’t have the defensive skills to play any of the skilled positions. Combination of Eye, BR and Speed makes him usable in the Majors.

#27         MarshallRath    Drafted by Norfolk                                             Draft Grade: C
Average ML player has great contact, runs well and can hit righties well enough to play in the Majors. Unfortunately he doesn’t have the defensive skills to play more than a COF/1B platoon.

#28         ChrisBranyan   Drafted by Philadelphia                                     Draft Grade: N/A
Didn’t sign
..

#29         LeoMazzaro       Drafted by Mexico City                                      Draft Grade: C+
Average ML player. Probably best suited as a Utility defender that could start vs lefties.

#30         EugeneKnight  Drafted by Boise                                                 Draft Grade: B-
Long relief type pitcher..   Avrage to low splits, Good control. Great #1 pitch with a couple other average pitches.. With a very LOW GB rating his downfall will always be the long ball.

Owner Interview: Geese2128

Los Angeles Blue Crew

WIS Name: geese2128
First Name: Doug
Home State: Ohio
Age: 38

What do you do when you’re not playing HBD or working?:
Golf, way way to much golf.

Favorite Teams:
Cincinnati Reds, Cincinnati Bengals & The Miami Hurricanes.

Choose 4 people you’d like to hang out with for a night (why?):

Bill Clinton(fairly sure we all know why), Peter Edward Rose(listening to story after story after story), Roger Clemens(childhood sports hero), Adriana Lima(VS Angel).

Funniest or dumbest thing that you have done in last few years:

This last Saturday. Went to the Ohio State/Penn State game in Columbus but the tickets were still in Cincinnati. Now I owe a HUGE favor as I had to talk a friend into driving up our tickets.

Most Memorable WIS moment:

Completing my first full season in WIS knowing it could only get better from there...

HBD owner that you respect/fear the most (Why?):

Mikebr13 in my other league, Majors. Just seems like every single season he is able to make a trade or acquisition that makes his Team substantially better.

If you could change one thing about Sweet Lou, what would it be?:

More good clean smack talk between Division rivals. First weeks LA Times headline: Los Angeles Blue Crew starts season(8) 7-0 after completing sweeps in Salt Lake & Salem!

If you could change one thing about HBD what would it be?:

Coach contracts would last longer than 1 year. Worse part of the season is wasting time fighting over minor league coaches. Also, I do not have any brilliant ideas on how but the Draft should & could be so much better.
